Traveling

My Darling

Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.

Last First

First Day

It's like first day of school all over again. Get up exceptionally early to make sure you don't miss out a button on your shirt. Take time to have a good breakfast so your tummy will not protest in the middle of a class discussion. You begin to wonder if you'll make any friend at all, and hope no one would think you're too weird. You're nervous about being in a completely new environment, but excited more. And you try not to show either emotion. You learn the art of watching others, and watching others watch you; with a hammer in hand, ready to break the ice anytime. It's a strange yet exhilarating feeling altogether.

And this, will probably be my last first day of school.

Mortality

So I'm going to Bali for the Best Dive Job In The World. I'm really excited but all these Tsunami and Earthquakes led me to think (once again) about my mortality. I'll never know (now at least) if I will ever come back... Come back the same person.

Negative thoughts are not meant to be thought about before a flight. But oh well, just an inexplicable sense of foreboding?

Best Dive Job In The World

Nah, don't worry (if you are at all). It's just a momentary dark thought. Bali here I come! :D

Try Putting Yourself In Her Shoes

In Her Shoes

Where Have You Been?

I heart shoes, but not as much as I love pictures of shoes. I like to look at pictures of shoes, with just the legs and feet, in particular. I would think about where those shoes have been and who wears them. I think you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes that he/she wears.

P.S. The pictures forming the collage in the middle were stolen from the internet.

Fisherman VS Businessman

The Fisherman
There was once a businessman who was sitting by the beach in a small Brazilian village.
As he sat, he saw a Brazilian fisherman rowing a small boat towards the shore having caught quite few big fish.
The businessman was impressed and asked the fisherman, “How long does it take you to catch so many fish?”
The fisherman replied, “Oh, just a short while.”
“Then why don’t you stay longer at sea and catch even more?” The businessman was astonished.
“This is enough to feed my whole family,” the fisherman said.
The businessman then asked, “So, what do you do for the rest of the day?”
The fisherman replied, “Well, I usually wake up early in the morning, go out to sea and catch a few fish, then go back and play with my kids. In the afternoon, I take a nap with my wife, and evening comes, I join my buddies in the village for a drink — we play guitar, sing and dance throughout the night.”
The businessman offered a suggestion to the fisherman.
“I am a PhD in business management. I could help you to become a more successful person. From now on, you should spend more time at sea and try to catch as many fish as possible. When you have saved enough money, you could buy a bigger boat and catch even more fish. Soon you will be able to afford to buy more boats, set up your own company, your own production plant for canned food and distribution network. By then, you will have moved out of this village and to Sao Paulo, where you can set up HQ to manage your other branches.”
The fisherman continues, “And after that?”
The businessman laughs heartily, “After that, you can live like a king in your own house, and when the time is right, you can go public and float your shares in the Stock Exchange, and you will be rich.”
The fisherman asks, “And after that?”
The businessman says, “After that, you can finally retire, you can move to a house by the fishing village, wake up early in the morning, catch a few fish, then return home to play with kids, have a nice afternoon nap with your wife, and when evening comes, you can join your buddies for a drink, play the guitar, sing and dance throughout the night!”
The fisherman was puzzled, “Isn’t that what I am doing now?”

Dreams

Heart

In the middle of a storm, a pilgrim reaches an inn and the owner asks where he is going.
"I'm going to the mountains," he answers.
"Forget it," says the innkeeper, "it's a risky climb, and the weather is awful."
"But I'm going up," answers the pilgrim. "It is my dream".
"If my heart got there first, it will be easy to follow it with my body."

Stay Hungry Stay Foolish

Happy Birthday To Me

Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does - except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.

Gong Hey Fat Choy

Gong Hey Fat Choy

When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Our answers were things like astronaut, president, or in my case, a princess. When we were ten, they asked again. We answered rock star, cowboy, or in my case, gold medalist. But now that we’ve grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how about this: Who the hell knows? This isn’t the time to make hard and fast decisions, this is the time to make mistakes. Take the wrong train and get stuck somewhere. Fall in love… a lot. Major in philosophy, cause there’s no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind and change it again, because nothing’s permanent. So make as many mistakes as you can. That way, someday, when they ask again what we want to be, we won’t have to guess. We’ll know.

Decorate Your Own Soul

Smurfy

"After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security, and you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not grief of a child, and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure... that you really are strong, and you really do have worth."

Filtered World

Filtered World

"I put on my new glasses to heighten the effect. The glasses have a sort of pinkish tint to them that bathes everything I see in a rosy glow, and I'm pleased with myself for buying something that doesn't necessarily make me look good to the world (they are a little faggy, I guess) but which makes the world look good to me instead."

Over The Mountains

"People think of heaven as a paradise garden, a place where they can float on clouds and laze in rivers and mountains. But scenery without solace is meaningless."

Hello 2011. I'm Still Stuck In 2009.

Never Ending Circle
The never ending circle. And then, there is the first square.

"One always has to know when a stage comes to an end. If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through.

Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters – whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished. "

- Paulo Coelho
